At the end of last year, then President Obama slapped on sanctions to the Russian government for the claims that it interfered with the elections in November, by manipulating the Internet infrastructure upon which the e-Voting mechanisms reside.
In fact, a lot of the connectivity and broadband access in this regard is actually provided by the telecom vendors themselves, not so much from the level of the ISP as it was once before.
Because of this, the telecom industry is consistently on pins and needles in order to ensure that its networks are always up and running 24/7/365, and most importantly remain secure. This has always been a huge issue, especially as Cyber based threats and risks are always looming and getting more sophisticated.
It is predicted that in 2017, the Internet will be attacked and brought down for a period of 24 hours or more. This hypothesis has been formulated by James Carder, the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at LogRythm Labs, located in Boulder, CO.

Think about it . . . if we do lose access to the Internet for a long period of time, how will businesses, corporations, and average, everyday citizens be impacted? Obviously, it will be a great loss. In fact, it may come to the point where a feeling of paralysis is even realized.
Having access to the Internet whenever we need or want it has become such a part of daily lives, society simply has not thought twice about what the real losses will be if this unfortunate situation really does happen.
This is a grave issue that the telecom vendors have to acknowledge as an extremely high priority in 2017. It is expected that the CEOs of the various telecom vendors will be meeting with key government leaders (such as those Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and John McCain, R-AZ) in order to ascertain and implement ways in which to keep the Internet infrastructure safe and sound.
