AT&T continues to lead the way with the highest number of on-net fiber-lit commercial buildings in the United States.
Last week, AT&T announced that it recently reached 400,000 on-net fiber-lit commercial buildings, which covers approximately 1.8 million business locations across the United States. On-net fiber indicates that the building is directly connected to a service provider. AT&T’s rapid fiber expansion increases its current fiber route network to approximately “1.1 million global route miles.”
AT&T’s business fiber solutions provide fiber speeds up to 1 Gbps, allowing users to upload and download data and media in just seconds. According to AT&T, its business solutions also includes access to VoIP services and virtual private network (VPN) services. High-speed fiber access is crucial to many businesses that utilize more data and cloud applications than ever before. AT&T’s fiber network “supports the bandwidth needed for data-intensive services.” For businesses interested in speeds beyond 1 Gbps, AT&T recommends their “Dedicated Internet” solution, which offers speeds up to 40 Gbps.
“Fiber accelerates everything that businesses need to digitally transform. Without fiber, innovative solutions like highly-secure networking, cloud computing, and 5G wouldn’t be possible,” says Mo Katibeh, chief marketing officer, AT&T Business.
In August 2017, Vertical Systems Group, a research company that ranks fiber, cable, and Ethernet providers, ranked the top providers of on-net fiber-lit buildings. It comes as no surprise that AT&T was the top provider when VSG’s report was released six months ago.
Currently, AT&T has “…more than 8 million business customer locations nationwide that are either on or within 1,000 feet of their fiber.” AT&T states this fiber footprint is “more than 2x of their nearest competitor.”
