Charter Communications recently revealed plans to offer mobile services by mid-2018 through a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with Verizon.

By offering a mobile service, Charter hopes to attract new customers in addition to offering cable bundle packages.

Thomas Rutledge, CEO of Charter Communications, announced the plan to investors, stating that field trials have already been launched with approximately 5,000 employees through an “end-to-end sales activation.” The agreement will “utilize Verizon’s wireless network together with Charter’s wi-fi network to offer the services.”

Charter has an existing MVNO agreement with Comcast, partnering 50/50 to develop a backend operating platform “to support both Comcast’s Xfinity Mobile and Charter’s Spectrum Mobile service.” According to Rutledge, the platform will serve as both companies’ sales and services platform.

While details regarding Charter’s mobile services have not been released, the company looks to accelerate their MVNO service offerings.
